Cass County Electric members will notice something missing from their December bill … the purchased power adjustment charge. The bill, arriving in January, reflects the Board of Directors approved “Purchased Power Adjustment Holiday” for the December billing cycle. The Purchased Power Adjustment (PPA), which is a variable billing cost that is not included in the base rate, has been zeroed out for the month of December. This is a one-time rate decrease of approximately $900,000.
“We are pleased to be in the position to give our member-owners this rate relief on their December bills. It comes at a time of year where a little extra money is appreciated. This is one of the many benefits of being a member-owner of Cass County Electric Cooperative,” said Wendy Loucks, chairperson of the Board of Directors at Cass County Electric Cooperative.
This decrease was made possible due to a good year ending with operating margins expected to exceed our budgeted amount. The additional margin is due mainly to lower than budgeted operating expenses and higher than expected member account growth. Because Cass County Electric is a member-owned cooperative, this is just one of the many benefits of being a member-owner.
